remarques:	English book perhaps the most famous novel of Erdman, combining the high financial gambling of petrodollars and a dangerous playing of political power in oil countries perhaps also that Erdman take some revenge towards Switzerland for his bad experience when working with the Swiss bank system >> p. 62 again not a particularly positive analysis of the Swiss financial system >> p. 63/64 the French/Swiss military pact before and after 2nd WW >> p. 69 the Swiss government >> p. 70/71 the embargo against neutral Switzerland during 2nd WW, Swiss are very consistent in the practice of hypocrisy but Erdman should know that Fendant is not produced in Vaud! >> p. 77 jass being the Swiss national sport! >> p. 88 the good wealth of Arabia reached in less than a decade (as a comparison, the USA needed two centuries) >> p. 102 the area of the shah of Iran did not last that long >> p. 103 the exposé about the Jews >> p. 106 portrait of sheik Ahmed Zaki Yamani n.b. commentaires >> voir the billion dollar killing >> p. 113 incoming conflict between Iran and Saudi Arabia and Arabian princes (Erdman dixit) cannot involve themselves in bargaining with foreigners >> p. 116 Saudi Arabia faced with the project of having a surplus revenue of $ 300 billion and they just do know what to do with this money except than reinvesting it in other countries (the revenue of petrodollars) >> p. 124 Arabian mentality >> p. 131 the capitalistic system >> p. 133 the Americans had no other choice than to back the shah in order to stop the Russian expansion in the Middle East >> p. 138 a good exposé about the use and production of plutonium >> all in all a good novel but sometimes really abit humorous Information A) Paul Erdman (19.5.1932 - 23.4.2007) est un écrivain canadien, auteur de roman policier ayant pour univers le monde de la finance internationale il suit les cours de l'université de Georgetown, puis part en Suisse finir ses études à l'Université de Bâle, en 1958, il travaille comme analyste financier pour la Communauté européenne du charbon et de l'acier, entre 1959 et 1961, il est embauché comme économiste par la SRI International à Menlo Park, en Californie il retourne en Suisse et fonde la banque Salik, dont il devient le président, cette banque est rachetée par l'United California Bank en 1969, mais Erdman garde son poste, à la suite d'une forte perte due à une mauvaise spéculation sur le marché du cacao, il est accusé de fraude et se retrouve en prison, libéré en attendant le procès, il quitte la Suisse pour l'Angleterre, puis la Californie, condamné par coutumace, il reste alors aux États-Unis et se lance dans une carrière de romancier en s'inspirant de son expérience dans le milieu bancaire il publie en 1973 un premier roman intitulé the Billion Dollar Sure Thing qui reçoit le Prix Edgar-Allan-Poe du meilleur premier roman, ce récit, qui se déroule pendant le premier choc pétrolier, montre aux lecteurs un complot visant à contrôler le marché monétaire, bien qu'en partie fictive, cette histoire est grâce à l'expérience d'Erdman une réussite et parvient à expliquer les rouages de la finance de manière simple son deuxième roman, The Silver Bears, est adapté au cinéma sous le titre Banco à Las Vegas par Ivan Passer en 1978, avec Michael Caine, Cybill Shepherd et Louis Jourdan dans les rôles principaux Erdman continue alors une prolifique carrière de romancier et est également l'auteur de plusieurs essais sur le monde de la finance dont un sur les conséquences du krach d'octobre 1987, plusieurs de ses romans et essais ont été traduits en français il décède d'un cancer à l'âge de 74 ans dans son ranch en Californie
